Poetics of Computing Open Call

An Open Call to join an intimate collective exploration group to meet and practice together three times, each 3h long –on Saturday 21 June, Saturday 12 July, Saturday 13 September– with refreshments being served.

How could poetry’s excess of meaning shake the quicksand of computational matter? Do poetic forms of computation have the potential to reveal communal and joyful ways of relating with code, practices of coding and algorithmic thinking? And how could recognising that the term ‘computer’ was first used for women calculating manually, help us to put flesh to computing?

We would like to invite you to collectively explore gestures which challenge the computational practices that lead to technological alienation. Together we would love to practice and experiment with questions and methods around historical uses of poetry in computing, the relationship between metaphors present in code languages and physical environments, and non-binary computational logics, among other questions which will be gathered with participants.

Would you like to join us? Then please send a few informal sentences about why you would like to join and/or what you would like to explore together before the 10th of June to info@varia.zone.

It is not necessary to attend all 3 sessions, though we hope it would be possible to join at least two of them!
